Our Social Inclusion policy
Music 4 U believes that everyone should have an opportunity to have fun with music. By mixing together children and young people:
· with special needs
· facing social exclusion
· with musical talent
· at risk
· at different stages of development, or
· with hidden difficulties in their personal lives
we can enable them to make a real difference to their own lives, to the lives of other young people around them and to the community at large. A love of music can unite people from a wide variety of backgrounds and abilities. Providing musical activities can give people an important chance to practice social skills, while building confidence and self-esteem.
From the very beginning, our founder, Debbie Kirkness, has called upon her professional experience working with young people and adults with special needs to enable us to welcome members who may need extra help, including children with Autism and Asberger’s Sydrome, filling an important gap in existing services. We have also provided workshops for the Downs Association and schools catering for children with more severe special needs. |
